Object history
Playday is the national day for play, highlighting the importance of play in children’s lives. It was conceived as London Playday by three playworkers, Mick Conway, Paul Bonel and Kim Holdaway in 1986 in response to rumoured cuts to school-based play centres and adventure playgrounds in London. By 1989, the year of this poster, it had grown to dozen of events across London, before going national in 1991.
Discussions for the design of this poster took place between Mick Conway and artist Ken Meharg over pints at the Bricklayers Arms, Shoreditch. H.E.L.L.P. refers to a health and education leaflets and posters project.
