Object history
The badge 'No Nuke is Good Nuke' featuring the GLC's (Greater London Council) slogan 'Working for London and Peace' was produced in the early 1980s, when GLC was committed to keep London as a 'nuclear-free zone' (1982).
The badge's design is particularly interesting, as the wire mesh overlapping the text strongly recalls the fences of the RAF Greenham Common. When, in 1981, the military bases was selected to site US nuclear weapons, dozen of women and children marched from Cardiff to Berkshire to protest, and eventually set up the Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp (1981-2000).
