Object history

This badge was owned and worn by Hackney activist and journalist, Ian Rathbone, who was involved with supporting the group.

The Waltham Forest Unemployed Workers Group was an unemployed centre located an old school in Markhouse Road, Walthamstow. The chair was a Hackney Councillor, and the group was used by people from other boroughs, including Hackney as it didn't have its own Unemployed Workers Centre. It closed around 1983.
