Physical Description

Metal, circular badge with a green background and a white and purple text reading 'Fight the Corrie Anti-Abortion bill!'. The badge is part of the Campaign against Corrie (CAC, 1979-1982) - a subgroup of the National Abortion Campaign (NAC)- which successfully fought the Corrie Bill, a reform that aimed to introduce further limits and restrictions on women's rights on abortion.

Object history

In 1979 the proposed ‘Corrie Bill’ sought to restrict the abortion rights that had been granted under the 1967 Abortion Act.

A campaign protesting the legislation brought together women’s organisations, trade unions and community groups, and saw many Hackney women and men take part in demonstrations and letter writing. All three Hackney MPs voted against the proposal and the bill was eventually dropped.

This badge was owned and worn by Hackney Labour councillor Peter Kahn.
