Circular badge, blue/red/white. For USSR National exhibition at Earls court, London in May 23 - June 10 1979.
Object history
This badge was produced for the last of three Soviet ‘Industrial Exhibitions’ that took place in Earls Court, London in 1961, 1968, and 1979. These exhibitions aimed to promote a utopian view of the Soviet way of life in the USSR in Britain by showcasing technology, fashion and consumer goods.
This badge was owned by Hackney councillor Peter Kahn. Hackney was a 'linked district' with Krasnaya Presnya, then in the Soviet Union (USSR), from the late 1960s, and the twinning was still active until 1990. As part of the twinning, Peter visited Moscow as part of a twinning delegation, and hosted representatives while visiting in Hackney.
