Physical Description
South Asian woman wearing a gingham checked dress which comes below her knees, sitting on a chair in a photo studio. Her hair is below her chin, possible in a net or similar. Both has hands are on her lap and she is holding a page in her left hand. She has placed her feet in a pair of laced up brogues.
Object history
Mrs Bhagwan Devi Pandit travelled to London in 1946 with her sons, to join her husband Mr Devi Pershad Pandit. This photograph was taken the following year in 1947 at a studio close to her husband's business on Balls Pond Road. She wore both sarees and western clothing.
