Object history

This badge was owned and worn by Hackney activist, Ian Rathbone.

In the 1980s the Greater London Council campaigned against nuclear weapons and challenged the government’s position and information on civil defence. This included declaring London as a ‘Nuclear-Free Zone’ in June 1982, and holding a programme of anti-nuclear themed cultural events and projects as part of a “Year of Peace” in 1983.
