This badge was produced in 1976 as part of a campaign to save Plaistow Maternity Hospital from closure. The badge has a red centre and white external edge with a text reading 'Save all Newham Hospitals - Support Plaistow maternity work-in'.
Object history
In 1976 the City and East London Area Health Authority agreed to close Plaistow Maternity Hospital, Newham. In opposition to this staff organised a 'work-in', a form of industrial action where hospital staff occupy the premises and continue to provide healthcare services. This badge was owned and worn by Hackney Labour councillor Peter Kahn.
