Physical Description

12-inch vinyl record with an image of textile art and white text. The art shows back to back, connected figures. One of these figures faces another separate person/figure who is wearing a purple skirt. The border of the image is cut off around the edges but is made up of black, orange, red and cream triangles and squares. The artist and album name are in white text at the top and bottom of the image. The song 'Ra-Ti-Ray' is taken from an earlier release of Grant's 'Soca Baptism' (1993).

Object history

This song and album cover are both taken from an earlier CD release by Eddy Grant called 'Soca Baptism' (1993). The image for 'Ra-Ti-Ray' is a cropped section of a larger textile work made up of four different scenes which is used for the artwork of 'Soca Baptism'. Soca (originally sokah) is musical genre comprised of a blend of African and East Indian rhythms. 'Ra-Ti-Ray' and 'Soca Baptism' are both examples of Grant's 'drive to preserve Caribbean music'.
